Spring

Spring has hopefully finally arrived and I can start to enjoy the nice weather when I am not working or attempting to move forward with my FMP...which as of yet is slow off the mark. Here are some of my spring snapshots to get me into the swing of things.

Exhibition complete!

After a long week and a half the 'Landfalls' exhibition is finally up and running! Come and visit us! Southampton Bargate gallery, Wednesday- Sunday 12-5 until the 29th April :)

It has been a tiring but amazing experience and I am glad to have had the opportunity to help out.

Gallery installation

As I am currently lost in my own project it is nice to be able to help someone else with theirs. At the moment I am one of four students helping our lecturer with the installation of his show at the Bargate gallery in Southampton. It has so far been a great opportunity  to learn how an exhibition is curated and the little details that need to be taken into consideration.

The exhibition is called 'Landfalls' and you can see information about it on his website http://www.landfalls.org/

project dilemas

FMP- still in the experimenting stage and at the moment I have two ideas that are going completely different ways.
The first is to photograph an emptied surface in the house, are the objects that were removed from the scene important when creating a representation of their owner? do the objects need to be in the picture to tell a story, how effective is the absence of the objects within the photograph?
This next idea is based around Nigel Shafran and his interest in the way other people order and stack their things, almost creating sculptural forms made up of domestic things. ' We take pleasure from the arrangement of ordinary things'. This photograph is about the chaos of the everyday life surrounding this vase of flowers. The owner has placed this vase with a purpose, they want to create serenity and beauty within the room. Is the vase hidden amongst the everyday items, lost into the mix of the over looked items. Shafran says that 'how we place things can be telling of how and what we are', so does the placing of this vase represent the character of the occupant?

I guess I am writing this post because I am confused as to where I am going with this project, maybe writing it down will help me to discover what I am looking for!

At a stand still

Final major project....comes along with more than you bargained for. The stress levels are rising and my creative flow has come to a halt. I have no idea where my project is going and how to go about developing it! Having planned to go home this weekend to carry on taking photographs I need to come up with a concept for my project, which is proving much more difficult than my last. I know what I want my images to look like I just don't know why I want to do it.
So here I am procrastinating and looking through old photographs...  I wish I had a kite right now.

First attempt

I travelled home this weekend to start taking photographs for my final major project.

I didn't really know where it was going to go but I decided to work in a similar way to my last project. I took pictures of the room as I found it, and then I removed nearly everything that was in the shot, minus the basic furniture.

I think with work this could end up to be an interesting project, although at the moment i'm not entirely sure what it is!

new ideas

I finally got my grades back for my first project this year ( pretty happy with the results) so I now need to figure out what I'm going to do for my final major project and this is proving to be a tricky one...

As I enjoy taking photographs of interiors I want to carry on in this way, photographing objects from homes that I am familiar with. I thought about maybe photographing collections...items in which people have been drawn to collect for one reason or another. I could maybe start with things like my Grandads vinyl collection that lines the wall of his living room.... it's a start anyway...
